Ohana Gomes Imu Part One

As part of our Gomes Family Reunion my cousins and grandpa decided it was important to pass on the tradition of cooking a traditional pua'a kalua. My cousins bought two pigs and prepared the imu or underground oven. They spent all day before the luau digging the pit and spent all night watching over the imu. The next day we all showed up for the moment of truth.

Starting to uncover the first layer of ash and dirt.

Now the second layer is coming off.

You can see the pigs covered in burlap. They need to remove the burlap and pull the pigs out of the pit.
Taking off the burlap layer and showing the leaves wrapped around the pig.

Almost ready to come out!
